How Do You Recycle Synthetic Corks?

Synthetic CorkYou said “Finally, synthetic corks are recyclable”. Question is how do I recycle corks? Do they go in with recyclables like plastic bottles?

Hello Sal,
Synthetic corks are not marked with a recyling number, but they are made of #7 plastic. Any recycling center that takes this plastic should be able to handle them just fine. If you are having trouble finding a location, go to https://search.earth911.com/  Type in “#7 Plastic Bottle” and your zipcode to find a location near you.

  1. CAN YOU MAKE A TRIVIT USING PLASTIC WINE CORKS? WILL IT TAKE THE HEAT OF A VERY HOT PAN?

  2. BJ, I am very sorry, but we do not have an answer for you. Heat testing has never been done on this product that we can find since it is never intended to withstand heat.

  3. I have made a plastic wine cork trivet and when a hot pan is placed on it the plastic will melt and stick to the pan. I now make wooden wine cork trivets and spray with high gloss clear spray paint and have no problem with the heat. I also make wooden cork purses and bird houses.

  4. I have a cork i hand that is labeled as #4 plastic so they are not all made from #7
